UCLA MAPs Classes - Virtual

Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) are the signature educational programs of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC). These six-week class series are open to the public. MAPs classes lay the foundation for participants to learn basic principles of mindfulness, to develop a personal meditation practice, to learn about the science and practice of mindfulness, and to apply the principles in daily life.

MINDFUL AWARENESS PRACTICES, MAPS
MAPS I - FOR DAILY LIVING (Virtual/Zoom Classroom)
CE Credit Available for Psychologists; Calif licensed MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs, LCSWs; & Nurses. Dates: Tuesdays Nov 8 – Dec 13, 2022. CE Credits Available. 6-week course

REGISTER
​MAPs I Daily Living is suitable for beginner, intermediate, and advanced mindfulness and meditation students.
 
Structure
Each class is a combination of lecture, practice, and group feedback and discussion.
MAPs is taught in a context of a supportive community environment with classes no larger than 30-40 students. Students report that the group support was one of the most helpful and inspiring aspects of the class.  
  • The class meets weekly for two hours per week for six weeks
  • Students complete daily home practice meditation assignments starting at five minutes a day and working up to 20 minutes daily by the end of the course
  • Students receive weekly practice review sheets via email + web links to free guided meditations, online videos, and a reading list

Who should take this class?
This course is an excellent introduction to mindfulness for beginners. MAPs class lays the foundation for a daily meditation practice and provides insight into the basics of mindfulness and how it can be applied to daily life. It is also appropriate for an experienced practitioner who wishes to revitalize their practice. MAPs is helpful for people of all backgrounds and religions. Classes are suitable for ages 16 and over.

Refund and Cancellation Policy 
Refunds requested prior to two weeks before the first day of class will be assessed a $25 administrative fee. We regret that we cannot give refunds after this date. Refunds should be requested by email to wiseheartmindfulness@gmail.com.
MARC.UCLA reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class.
​No refunds or credits are given to registrant "no-shows".
Practices
The class series offers a variety of mindfulness practices so that the student can discover which practice is useful to them. Practices include:
  • Sitting meditation          
  • Eating meditation           
  • Daily life meditations       
  • Relational mindfulness         
  • Walking meditation
  • Standing mediation
  • Movement mediation
  • Practices to develop positive emotions
  • Working with thoughts
​CE Policy: MAPS are an excellent introduction to mindfulness for clinicians, who are welcome to take it for credit. The cost for the CEs is $50.
  • Psychologists: Continuing Education Credit for this program is provided by UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This course offers 10 hours of credit.
  • California licensed MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs, LCSWs: Continuing Education Credit for this program is provided by UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists 10 contact hours may be applied to your license renewal requirements.
  • Nurses: UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP16351, for 12 contact hours.

Scholarships: *UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) and Dr. Ali's Wise Heart Mindfulness are deeply committed to equity and accessibility and recognize the economic hardship caused by the global pandemic. We invite you to contact UCLA's MARC (marcinfo@ucla.edu) or Dr. Ali (wiseheartmindfulness@gmail.com) if you cannot afford the minimum fee and want to participate in MAPs. Please submit any scholarship requests at least 48 hours before the event start date.

Dr. Ali is a UCLA certified Mindfulness Facilitator trained at the UCLA Semel Institute Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) and is recognized by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association (IMTA) as a Certified Mindfulness Teacher, Professional (CMT-P).
